The trailhead for Nickel Plate Trail is located a block north of Roberts Park and 29th Street at the intersection of 32nd Street and Park Road. The trail heads straight north for three-quarters of a mile to Lick Creek following the former route of the Nickel Plate Railroad. A paved pathway winds its way north past quiet neighborhoods through wooded areas. A scale model of the solar system with interpretive signage, installed as part of an Eagle project by Connersville local Alex Newhall, stretches the length of the trail.
Open for foot traffic, automobile parking and bicycle stands are available across from the south entrance.
The trail opened in 2015 and future plans call for it to expand to encircle the entire city.
